Metals

Superfund Basic Research Program

Heavy metals contaminate sediment, soils and water on or near Superfund sites and affect human and ecological health in numerous ways. As different forms of a metal (either as different oxidation states or forms complexed or bound to inorganic and organic matter) may exhibit differing toxicities and mobilities in the environment and in tissues, much multidisciplinary research has been dedicated to gaining knowledge about exposure, toxicity, risk assessment and remediation techniques for numerous metals and species.
