Abstract: The first high-resolution structures of key proteins involved in the biosynthesis of several natural product classes are now appearing. In some cases, they have resulted in a significantly improved mechanistic understanding of the often complex processes catalyzed by these enzymes, and they have also opened the way for more rational efforts to modify the products made.
