The Superfund Basic Research Center Training Core continued its weekly Seminar Series on Fridays from 12:00 to 1:30 P.M., in the Searle Center, which is located on Duke University's West campus in the Seeley Mudd Building with the Duke University Medical Center Library. A broad range of research within the field of toxicology is covered including both environmental and biomedical toxicology. A symposium on a focused topic is held each semester. Symposium topics for 2006 included in the Spring, 2006 the Training Core cosponsored "Cancer and the Environment: Environmental Sentinels for Human Disease" with the Duke University Medical Center Comprehensive Cancer Center and in the Fall 2006 the Core's symposium was "Toxicant-Induced Alterations of Sexual Differentiation." The planned symposium for Spring 2007 is "Developmental Neurobehavioral Disabilities and Toxic Exposure." These seminars and symposia include nationally and internationally renowned speakers from academia, government and industry. Attendees have included students and faculty from Duke University and Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as scientists from various local affiliations such as NIEHS, EPA, CIIT Centers for Health Research, and the State of North Carolina Department of Toxicology. With the Training Core are supporting advanced graduate students who are participating in toxicology research training relevant to the Superfund Center.
