Progress Reports

Year:   2013  2012  2011

On 8/1/12, the responsibilities of Principal Investigator were shifted from Dr. Robert Wright, who left Harvard to join the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, to Dr. David Bellinger. As summarized in the transition letter sent to NIEHS, Dr. Bellinger has been involved in all three of the cohorts (Tar Creek, OK; Mexico City, Mexico; Dhaka, Bangladesh) that provide the basis for the biomedical projects, including field visits to train local data collectors.

Mr. John Yong continues to serve as the Financial Administrator of the SRP. Since its inception, he has worked closely with the administrators of the cores and projects, providing overall supervision of the financial and administrative aspects of the grant. This involves the many subcontracts involved in the projects, as well as IRB protocols that cover the various activities. Mr. Yong represented the SRP at the Superfund Annual Meeting held in Raleigh in October, 2012.

The Administration Core supported travel for several trainees to the 25th Annual SRP Conference in Raleigh in October. The Harvard SRP also sponsored the 2012 Program in Quantitative Genomics Conference, "Sequencing and Complex Traits: beyond 1000 Genomes," held in Boston on November 15-16.

Monthly meetings of all core and project leaders are held to discuss administrative and scientific issues of interest to all investigators. At each meeting, one or two investigators present their research results or arrange for a guest speaker.

Because Harvard SRP will be submitting a competing renewal application in April 2013, in the Fall of 2012 they devoted monthly meetings to discussions among project and core leaders of their renewal plans, and, specifically, to exploring ways in which to strengthen the integration of the different components of the SRP. In addition, Harvard SRP held two meetings of the External Advisory Board (EAB) this year (7/26/12, 12/13/12) in order to present progress and to solicit feedback on renewal plans.
