Project Summary (1995-2000)

It has been found that liver damage produced by environmental contaminants, such as carbon tetrachloride, leads to suppression of the immune system. The goal of this project is to investigate the mechanism behind this immune suppression, especially the impacts of growth factor molecules on the expression of the IL-2 gene, a gene that codes for a product that is critical to proper immunological function. Improper expression of this gene is associated with a wide range of immunotoxic effects.
