Spring 2020 NIEHS WTP Awardee Meeting and Workshop Will be Held Virtually

After broadly considering the risks and impacts of a face to face meeting during the pandemic response, Emory University Woodruff Health Sciences Center, and NIEHS WTP have decided to turn the Workshop on Protecting Infectious Disease Responders During the COVID-19 Outbreak and the WTP Awardee Meeting into an all virtual webinar.

Awardee Meeting Details

The Awardee Meeting will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Purpose of the Awardee Meeting
The semi-annual NIEHS Worker Training Program (WTP) Awardee Meeting brings awardees together to provide program updates, exchange information regarding training, and discover new areas of interest to awardees.

Workshop Details

Emory University Woodruff Health Sciences Center, in conjunction with the NIEHS WTP, is sponsoring a workshop on Protecting Infectious Disease Responders During the COVID-19 Outbreak. The workshop will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.– 1:00 p.m. EDT and 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Purpose and Scope of the Workshop
The NIEHS Worker Training Program (WTP) has been addressing preparedness and response efforts since 2001. WTP awardees provided occupational biological safety training to workers during the anthrax attacks (2001), the H5N1 outbreak (2007), and the H1N1 avian influenza outbreak (2009); mold remediation training following Hurricanes Katrina (2005) and Sandy (2012); and Ebola virus disease preparedness training (2013-2015). This work continued through the Ebola Biosafety and Infectious Disease Response Training Program, integrating the HAZMAT trainer’s understanding of worker safety and health protection with training and guidance on infection control and biosafety.

This workshop will explore what training and protective measures worked best during previous infectious disease outbreaks to best inform protection of workers during the current COVID-19 outbreak.
