In your group, evaluate the statement below. Prepare a short
response that explains why you agree or disagree with the
statement. Use your own experience and the fact sheets in this
section to develop your answer .
You have been asked by the Health and Safety Commitee at
your workplace to respond to a worker who made the following
statement:
"We have spills every now and then, but nothing really
dangerous. It's not like we have big emergencies. We had
to clear the area once or twice just because there was a
little smoke or something. Everyone was back at work
within a few minutes though.
We've cleaned up lots of spills on our own, and we've
never had any problems. All you have to do is use your
head-it's common sense. If it's a really bad one, we know
we're supposed to call in the local fire department and
their haz mat experts."
