Course Title: Illicit Drug Labs
Type of Course: Emerg. Resp. for Specific Hazards
Description: This course addresses the training needs caused by the proliferation of illegal labs across the United States. This course focuses on maintaining the health and safety of fire fighters and first responders during illegal lab responses. This eight-hour course is geared toward the responders closest to the incident. Topics include recognizing and identifying illegal drug lab hazards, exposure, PPE, the role of the fire department and scene management.
Training Provider: International Association of Fire Fighters
Instructor Qualifications: Each instructor for this course should be experienced in HazMat training, illicit drug lab response, and trained to at least the first responder operations (FRO) level preferably the technician level. It is strongly recommended that instructors be qualified at a level equivalent to NFPA Instructor I. It is also recommended that each instructor have recent experience on a hazardous materials team in order to make the information more relevant to participants.

Intended Audience: The course was developed to specifically meet the safety needs of fire fighters and other agency emergency responders. However, the objectives are applicable to all potential emergency response groups, public and private (paid and volunteer fire, emergency medical service (EMS), police and public works).

Caveats: Meets or exceeds OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 and NFPA472.
