Disasters are unexpected events, which not only claim the lives of human beings and animals, but also result in huge damage to both natural and man-made properties. Disasters can be categorized as natural disaster, man-made disaster and environmental disaster. A large landmass on earth is prone to several natural disasters such as floods cyclone, landslide, earthquake, forest fire etc. Space based systems from their vantage position have unambiguously demonstrated their capability in providing vital information and services in disaster situation. Besides providing vital inputs for taking preventive measures through vulnerability analysis and prior risk assessment at regional and local levels, satellite based disaster data help in minimizing loss of life, property in advance. This paper presents the use of satellite-based data acquisition system, and analysis for advance disaster warning system.
