Abstract: The cellular mechanisms of epileptogenesis are reviewed as related to their role(s) in the expression of hyperexcitability and hypersynchrony. The data on the roles of the glutamate, GABA, acetylcholine, and adenosine receptors is discussed. The recent information on the role of glial cells in the expression of epileptogenicity is reviewed.
