The Training Core implements activities to add a layer of interdisciplinary training to the regular disciplinary training of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who are part of the Superfund Research Program. Columbia SRP trainees are expected to attend the Columbia SRP monthly seminar series and the online journal clubs, create posts and media content for the program website and social media posts, participate in short-term courses, and participate in outreach activities for the general public with the Research Translation Core and Community Engagement Core. Trainees presented one online arsenic journal club that were broadcast via webinar and that were attended by over 30 remote participants. Trainees were required to attend a mini-symposium held in February: Novel Methods for Integrating Environmental and Metal Biomarker Data, as well as a workshop on Metals and Epigenetics held in June. In June, the Training Core also sponsored a third annual Trainees Speed Talk, where each trainee gives a five-minute presentation summarizing their work over the past year. Six trainees gave oral presentations at the virtual 2020 Annual SRP meeting.
