The Analytical Services Core has provided support to the analysis of complex mixtures for Project 2 and field studies in Projects 5 and 6.  In support of Project 2, submitted samples were analyzed for dioxins/furans, PAHs, PCBs, and pentachlorophenol.  The submitted samples included fish tissues, sediment, water, and plant samples from the Jasper (TX), Lower Duwamish Waterway (WA), and the Libby, MT wood treatment facility Superfund sites.  In addition to the collected environmental samples, isolates from a coal tar and a wood preserving waste were analyzed to assist in the isolation of the more toxic components for evaluation utilizing in vivo studies.  In support of Project 5, water samples from the Libby, MT wood treatment facility Superfund site were analyzed for PAHs and pentachlorophenol. These samples were used in the analysis of the risk reduction technologies.  For the human and environmental risk assessment and exposure study in Azerbaijan (Project 6), the collected samples were analyzed for PAHs, organochlorines, and mercury.  These samples included soil, sediments, wildlife tissue (rodents) and house dust, as well as hair and blood from exposed and control human populations.
