Final Progress Reports

Year:   1999  1998  1997  1996  1995

Project investigators are extending existing epidemiologic work on the relationship between PCE and breast cancer risk in the Upper Cape region of Massachusetts. A population-based case-control study to assess the risk from PCE in drinking water from vinyl-lined asbestos cement pipe is underway. Activities during the first year focused on the establishment of the administrative infrastructure and survey instruments. Formal approvals were obtained from the Massachusetts Cancer Registry, Massachusetts Department of Vital Records, and the Health Care Financing Administration to use their records for identifying study subjects. Forms and protocols for tracing subjects were developed, voter registration lists and telephone directories were obtained, a questionnaire was drafted, and pre-testing was planned for the near future.
