The major focus of the Outreach Core has been the delivery of a seminar on “Environmental Health” through a televideo system to health care professionals in Texas.  The class has been offered four times this year to 61 professionals.  The SBRP also sponsored and helped to organize a Central and Eastern European Environmental Health Conference in Prague, Czech Republic, October 24-27.  This conference included 160 attendees from 16 different countries.  A one day course on “Environmental Toxicology” has also been presented six times to medical students on a Border Health rotation in Laredo, TX.  Dr. McDonald and Dr. Donnelly have also prepared two classes on Analytical Measurements and Biodegradation.  Each of these classes has been presented twice to staff at the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Finally, the SBRP has provided support to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District and the Laredo Health Department with respect to risk and clean-up activities at contaminated sites in these areas.  The SBRP prepared a summary for presentation to the public regarding a recent fish advisory due to PCB contamination in a local creek adjacent to a former Air Force Base.
