The Chemistry Core has supported the Superfund Center by synthesis of key analytical standards and 13C and 15N-labeled internal standards. The Core has been the underpinning of work on identification of biomarkers furthering the understanding of the etiology of cardiovascular disease, and developing a reliable, non-invasive test for coronary disease risk; coupling of effect directed bioassay with metabolomics methods to identify toxic components of complex mixtures; and complexity of application of toxicity equivalency factor approach in evaluating the risk associated with exposure to mixtures of dioxin-like halogenated aromatics. Publications resulting from this work contribute towards answers to pressing issues confronting evaluation of risk associated with environmental pollution.
