Final Progress Reports

Year:   2017  2005

The Administrative Core provides administrative and fiscal support for the UNC Superfund Basic Research Program. It is responsible for timely and accurate submissions of reports to the NIEHS, providing a liaison to various government agencies, assuring efficient technology transfer of new methodology to the university patent office, calling meetings of program scientists, and coordinating meetings of the External Scientific Advisory Committee. The External Scientific Advisory Committee met for two days with the UNC researchers in February 2005 to discuss progress of the program and the core’s competitive renewal. Beginning in 2004, the Administrative Core called regular meetings of all the PIs to plan strategies for its competitive renewal application. The first meeting was an initial mini-retreat of the PIs and Dr. William Glaze, who had been a member of the 2003 external review of the national Superfund Basic Research Program, addressing the outcome of the review and its implications. The focus of the subsequent meetings was improving responsiveness to NIEHS goals and strengthening links among the projects and cores. Drs. Swenberg and Aitken also met frequently with the core’s SBRP staff to ensure progress towards the competitive renewal submittal. The Administrative Core also provided fiscal management of all the research projects and cores, and it handled all correspondence with the NIEHS related to programmatic and fiscal issues.

The Superfund Basic Research Program Annual Meeting was held in Seattle, WA, November 3- 4, 2004 with the following individuals in attendance: Dr. James A. Swenberg, Dr. Michael Aitken, Ms. Kathleen Gray, Ms. Megan Hazelman, and Ms. Evelyn Kidd. The following students presented posters at the meeting: Diana Degen, Sungkyoon Kim, and Hongbo Zhu.
