Studies and Results

Successes over the past year include:

  1. Re-submitting a competing P42 grant application in September 2014
  2. Ongoing successful collaborations with community partners, including aiding in the establishment of emergency response processes with the Narragansett Tribe.
  3. KC Donnelly Externship awarded to James Rice, who conducted a passive sampler study in the Blackstone River at the Fisherville Mill hazardous waste site in Grafton, Massachusetts.
  4. Improving social media capabilities, including an upgrade to the website and increased activity on Twitter.

The Brown SRP continues to support a monthly seminar series that is well attended. The Community Outreach Core and Research Translation Core also sponsor a number of events. Additionally, the Administrative Core helped organize and support the following special activities:

4/14/14 Brown Launches a New Environmental Institute The Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) addresses environmental questions ranging in scale from molecular to planetary and provides an interdisciplinary home for faculty from the Superfund Research Program.
5/1/14 Fracking Webinar Series with Society for Risk Analysis Brown University served as the Rhode Island host location for the Society for Risk Assessment webinar series, "Scientific Studies on Impacts of Natural Gas Extraction from Marcellus Shale on Water Resources."
7/24/14 Trainee Workshop: Intellectual Property & Research Commercialization The Brown University SRP Research Translation and Training Cores co-organized/sponsored a workshop on "Intellectual Property & Research Commercialization."
