Project Summary (1995-2000)

Project investigators are developing strategies for cleanup of both metals and solvents and continue to develop new methods for site remediation. Mixed wastes (toxic metals and solvents) are often found at Superfund sites. An approach which combines biological remediation with the previously developed steam injection and recovery technology is being tested. This has the advantage of sterilizing the ground (steam injection) and then introducing new bacteria into the soil which can perform the final stages of solvent remediation and potentially clean up toxic metals.
