Social psychologist Irene Lafarga Previdi, Ph.D., is dedicated to understanding environmental exposures among Puerto Rican communities, and to sharing scientific findings in understandable terms. As a postdoctoral trainee with the NIEHS Superfund Research Program (SRP), she collaborates with the Puerto Rico Testsite for Exploring Contamination Threats (PROTECT), a multi-institutional center led by Northeastern University and funded by SRP that studies the effects of environmental exposures on pregnant women and their children.

Her trainee work complements her other role as community engagement coordinator at the University of Puerto Rico’s Center for Collaborative Research in Health Disparities, where she studies factors that affect community health and well-being. Lafarga Previdi’s dual appointments allow her to learn and lead alike.

To learn more about her work, see the NIEHS Global Environmental Health Newsletter.
