Project Summary (1995-2000)

The investigators recruit and select highly qualified doctoral students, maintain course offerings and enrichment material to fill the gaps in their knowledge, and monitor their progress in Superfund research. The training faculty represents 21 different graduate programs from which the students are drawn. In addition to students in the toxicology program, special emphasis is placed on recruiting and selecting students from the nonbiological sciences including chemistry, engineering, hydrogeology, and soil science. The students selected fulfill the course requirements of their respective graduate group programs in addition to taking interdisciplinary courses from an extensive menu of course offerings including five new courses specifically developed for this project. Two of these focus on cross-training in the hazardous waste field between toxicological and engineering sciences.
