Project Summary (1995-2000)

The thrust of this project continues to be the improvement of the combustion design and control process with the goal of toxic emission reduction/prevention or enhancement of byproduct recovery for recycling and reuse. Combustion systems are used both for treatment and destruction of various types of waste materials and for the production of energy and materials. In these applications, they have the potential to produce air pollution and hazardous byproducts, which may result in exposures to human populations and damage to the environment. In addition, the project continues to develop simple, reliable, direct, real-time combustion species monitoring techniques to ensure reliable system control.
