Project Summary (2001-2006)

The Community Outreach Core connects the Mount Sinai Superfund Basic Research Program with the New York City communities who are exposed to hazardous environmental chemicals and have the potential for exposure to those toxins found in the Hudson River watershed. The initial partner communities in this effort are in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Project investigators have the following specific aims: to train community leaders in the environmental health sciences; to provide a permanent bridge of communication between the communities affected with the Superfund program and the program's scientists; and to provide an internship in environmental health sciences journalism.
