Superfund Research Program
Administrative Core - Research Translation
Research Translation Coordinator: Monica L. Baskin
Grant Number: P42ES027723
Funding Period: 2020-2025
Note: As of the most recent reissue of the Superfund Hazardous Substance Research and Training Program Request for Applications (RFA-ES-18-002), research translation in these multiproject center grants is now part of the Administrative Core. The research translation efforts are now facilitated by the Administrative Core and led by the Research Translation Coordinator.
An important goal of the Administrative Core is to foster the exchange of ideas and cultivate and perpetuate collaborations between the projects and cores as well as inter-project collaborations. The Administrative Core provides information transfer between stakeholders, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), the University of Tennessee, NIEHS SRP program staff, Region 4 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the community. The team is developing an innovative environmental SRP Visiting Professor Program. It is also fostering collaborative research within the UAB SRP Center and with other SRP Centers as well as drawing investigators in other fields into collaborations with investigators interested in environmental and biomedical Superfund science and research. The team is also promoting translation of the UAB SRP Center by working closely with the Community Engagement Core and providing research translation for the UAB SRP Center and the community.
Active and ongoing communication with the five research project investigators, key staff, and other Core leaders ensures the accomplishment of the Center’s mission to better understand environmental health risk and help mitigate human chronic lung disease. Research translation activities provide information to stakeholders in a timely fashion using language and communication channels that are most appropriate to the audience.
