Project Summary (1995-2000)

The objective of the this core is to assess changes in the spectrum of toxicity of products resulting from biological or chemical remediation of environmental contaminants. The focus to-date has been on commercial polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) mixtures, known as Aroclors, that consist of 70 to 80 PCB congeners differing in the position and degree of chlorine substitution. To carry out the goal, the group is; (1) producing large quantities of anaerobic microbial dechlorination products of Aroclors; and (2) testing the toxicity of Aroclors before and after dechlorination.
